Come Volunteer with Us!
As a volunteer, you have the
opportunity to pursue many different areas of interest and help
CCM in many ways. Children are welcome to come with you as you
volunteer for the museum. Below is a list of different volunteer
DOCENT– Responsibilities include: greeting visitors, taking admissions, program registrations, helping visitors use the exhibits, and keeping the museum tidy. This responsibility is reserved for more experienced volunteers.
EVENTS AND FESTIVALS– Help with activities for children and families at community events. This could also include set up and take down for the event or anything else that is needed.
MUSEUM WORKSHOPS– Groups such as schools, camps, child care centers, scouts, and birthday parties come to the museum for structured activities around a theme. Volunteering for these events could mean helping with crowd control, participating in games or activities, or helping set up for the groups. If you are an experienced educator please ask for more information.
OUTREACH WORKSHOPS– Bring the museum experience to children at schools, child care centers, etc. Similar to the Museum workshops, these are activities based on a theme, geared to the children’s age level. If you are an experienced educator please ask for more information.
EXHIBITS-- Help design, construct, and maintain the hands on exhibits at the museum. Exhibits include: Center Stage, Body Works (dentist office, health), Express Yourself (art workshop), and Around the World: Colombia, Hard Hats, Bay Window (native animals), and Watermen. These exhibits do need constant care and are looking for a volunteer to adopt one. If you adopt an exhibit it would mean to come in about once a week and tidy it up, find new supplies for the exhibit, maintain the existing items, and go out and find local businesses to donate money and supplies to maintain the exhibit. This would require a commitment of about 2 hours per week.
MARKETING AND PUBLICITY-- Write and send press releases about upcoming programs, new exhibits, and other museum news to the local media. Call for photo opportunities to the local media, produce and distribute general flyers about the museum to the Annapolis Visitors Center and local hotels, and produce and distribute specific flyers as needed about group workshops, membership, and upcoming special events.
PROGRAMS-- Coordinate a monthly schedule of classes, workshops, story times, concerts, etc. for children of all ages and their families. Support program facilitators as needed.
GROUNDS AND FACILITIES-- Outdoor: weeding and mulching, watering, litter pick up. Indoors: paint touch-ups, sewing, and repairs of exhibit items. Handyman/woman tasks around the building. Line up materials and professionals as needed for tasks.
FINANCE AND DEVELOPMENT-- Analyze the financial inflows and outgoes of the museum for future planning. Seek out and write grant proposals. Design or help with fundraising activities and events. Solicit donations. Acknowledge major contributors. These would require a commitment of at least 2 hours per week.
If any of these opportunities interest please indicate so on the volunteer application as well as what days and times you are available. Please also indicate how often you will be able to volunteer: for example, twice a week, once a week, once a month, or only for special events. Thank you.
