Teaching Peace through Music to War-Traumatized Children
Friday, May 9, 6:30pm at the Chesapeake Children's Museum

Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis
Come hear Liz Shropshire speak about how music programs can help war-traumatized children and teenagers overcome their experiences. The programs will cover the affects of war on children and youth, the ways in which a music program works to achieve peace and the three missions that her foundation has created: the Kosovo Children's Music Initiative, Peace Through Music Northern Ireland, and Peace Through Music Uganda
.

The programs are primarily for adults, but children are welcome.

Presenter:  Liz Shropshire, the international program director and board president of The Shropshire Music Foundation

Free and open to the public.
Sponsored by Anne Arundel Peace Action and the Chesapeake Children's Museum.

Kidz ‘n’ Muzik
Thursdays, May 8-29, 11 – 11:45 am.
Song, movement, musical instruments, integrated in creative play for ages 2 1/2 to 5 years.
Ages 2-5 years.
$45 / $40 CCM members.
Drop in fee $11 per class.

PRESCHOOL TO SCHOOL AGE

New Again Jewelry Workshop
Saturday, May 10, 10 am to 12 noon.
Bring old and broken jewelry, and use our endless supplies of beads and baubles to create unique works
of wearable art. Great gift-making opportunity!
$8 per person, ages 6 and up.

SCHOOL AGE

History Hike
Saturday, May 17, 10 am to 2 pm.

There is so much of the past to discover in present-day Annapolis! Take a short hike through the downtown area to visit sites including the Banneker-Douglass Museum and the William Paca House and Garden. Participants receive a copy of the guidebook “Long Ago is Closer Than You Think.”
Recommended for ages 8 and up.
$15 / $12 CCM members.
One adult free for up to 5 children.

Drum Circle
May 16, 5:30 - 6:30 pm
Bring your own drum, or borrow from our collection of percussion instruments. Drum circles will continue monthly on the third Friday. Held outdoors, weather permitting!

Let’s sing about freedom! We’ll join
our voices with voices of the past in the
continuing struggle for human rights.
Musicologists, Jeff Glassie and Julie
Littell will teach and perform songs from
our history. An AC300 event. All ages.
Free with museum admission.

Meet Gatsby
Wednesday, May 14th from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.
Visit with Gatsby, a Search and Rescue Horse. Gatsby’s handler, Jacquie Cowan, will explain how they work together using a “lost” game and other activities.
All ages.

Kids ‘n’ Kaboodle
Saturday, June 14, from 11 am to 3 pm
New day, new place. This year’s free fair for all the children of Annapolis will be held Saturday,

Together Again: Group Time & Group Games
Tuesday, May 13, 6-9 pm.
What can you do with three or more children?
So many wonderful things! Learn songs, games,storytelling techniques, science activities, and other secrets of handling a small crowd of small children. Approved by MSDE for 3 hours of continuing training for child care professionals.

$20 / $18 CCM members.

Who’s In Charge Here? Stress with Children
Thursday, May 22, 6-9 pm.
Are things a little out of control with your children? Head off catastrophe with stress management techniques. Learn to shift resources and attitudes to ward off explosions. Approved by MSDE for 3 hours of continuing training for child care professionals.

$20 / $18 CCM members.
