About the event

In this month’s workshop, we’ll learn how energy from the sun powers every bite of food we eat. Designed for youth in elementary school, this workshop connects science and snacks through the concept of photosynthesis—how plants turn sunlight into food—and follows the energy journey through the food chain.

Youth will observe how light affects plants, sequence the journey from sun to supper, explore oxygen bubbles in a photosynthesis-in-a-jar demo, and sort snacks based on whether they come directly from plants or through animals. We’ll wrap up with a creative art activity where students draw their own sun-powered meals and reflect on how food connects to nature and energy.

This program makes energy science fun, relatable, and interactive—perfect for young learners exploring the world around (and inside!) them. Part of the Savoring Science monthly workshop series at the Chesapeake Children’s Museum.
